Job Description

Support Center - Irving

The Associate Designer is a member of our Trend & Design Team and will bring creativity, innovation & trend-right product design to Michaels exclusive private brand collections. This Associate Designer will play a key role within our cross-functional product team. The Associate Designer will report directly to a Senior Designer & collaborate with the cross-functional MIK Team; including Designer, Manager of Trend & Design, Director of Trend & Design, Sourcing Manager, Product Manager, Director of Product Development and Category Director for multiple divisions and categories.

Major Activities

Design & Innovation

  • Collaborate with Product Designer, Senior Designer and/or Trend & Design Manager to design new product & collections, for seasonal & SBA product lines.
  • Assist in Seasonal Trend creation, research & ideation.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite; Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign to complete projects assigned.
  • Creation of icons and patterns and/or assisting Product Designers in recoloring artwork or patterns.
  • Rendering piece type templates and/or applying artwork to existing piece type templates.

Trend Research & Ideation

  • Compile market and trend research to help build new product collections & innovation.
  • Utilize trend resources & consumer insights to stay up-to-date on trend & the consumer.
  • Support design department in cataloging and logging new artwork.
  • Updates content for internal Trend & Design website.
  • Participate & support Designers during the trend planning stage; to provide tangible innovation samples, finishes, techniques & materials during seasonal trend walks & Ideations.

Special Projects

  • Provide support on special projects, initiatives and other tasks as needed

Minimum Education

  • Associates degree in a design related field or a minimum of 3+ years equivalent work experience

Minimum Special Certifications or technical skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator on a Mac Platform

  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to collaborate in a team setting and take direction

Preferred Special Certifications or technical skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, (Adobe In-­‐Design
