Support Center - Irving

In this role you will direct a team of Software Engineers to build and maintain exciting experiences for our customers that differentiates Michaels in the e-commerce space. You will direct projects, allocate resources and facilitate cross-functional collaboration within our Technology team. You will own the strategy and execution of projects assigned to your team and will partner with our Product and Design teams, helping to bring light to engineering challenges such as scalability and robustness while continually supporting the growth of the engineers on your team. This is a leader of people who clears obstacles for his/her team while empowering and enabling others to solve complex technical and business problems. Successful candidates will be strong people leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of developing teams and delivering results.

  • Direct highly skilled team of software engineers
  • Own project strategy and execution
  • Sets goals, strategies, budgets and oversees the deployment of large/enterprise scale initiatives and encourages a data-driven culture to improve the efficiency, scalability, stability, and security of applications
  • Be willing to dig in and provide hands-on support building software when needed to help support your team and Michaels.
  • Have a high level of comfort with analytical approaches and quantitative methods
  • Own and execute systems strategies to support business goals
  • Develop and leverage internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals
  • Ensure team goals are achieved
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and analytics to ensure that your team is delivering value for customers
  • Provides insight and guidance, and resolves cross-functional issues
  • Facilitate continuous learning and improvement for your team
  • Participate in end-to-end recruiting process, hiring and on-boarding exceptional engineering talent
  • Responsible for the growth of the team including individuals' career growth, skill set development, and hiring the right resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or STEM related field of study

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Experience with large scale web traffic design
  • Working knowledge of data structures and general algorithms
  • Working knowledge of time / space complexities
  • Proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, JavaScript, Python, C, C++, and web frameworks such as React
  • Knowledge of relational databases and NoSQL
  • Experience with cloud services, such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • 7+years of experience in software development
  • 5+ years directing engineering teams with growing responsibility
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule out of Irving, TX offic

Other

  • Ability to navigate a rapidly changing landscape, while handling multiple responsibilities
  • Curious about new technology and always looking to acquire new knowledge
  • Computer Science fundamentals experience in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Experience as a successful tech leader building, managing and mentoring engineering teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Be an action oriented, independent, self-starter comfortable working in an unstructured, fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive products and competing priorities simultaneously with minimum guidance and high attention to detail
