Position Summary:

This position will implement, maintain and improve upon established manufacturing and distribution center safety programs, especially those related to environmental concerns. Encourages and promotes safety on and off the job. Establishes safety procedures and work instructions. Routinely evaluates new equipment and existing workstations for safety and for ergonomic fit. Investigates incidents to establish and eliminate root causes. Develops plans and methods to meet OSHA’s annual training requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Directs development, maintenance, and achievement of goals in support of corporate, division and site EHS strategic initiatives which includes:
    • Supporting the creation of EHS goals for the site EHS manager, and appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, operations managers, and front-line supervisors
    • Creating and facilitating EHS engagement needed to accomplish the established goals/objectives for the year
    • Assist in determining appropriate leading and lagging indicators to track performance against the target goals and objectives
  • Works with leadership team and EHS element champions to complete an annual evaluation of compliance for EHS country, state, and local regulations
  • Drives to promote zero incident EHS culture throughout the site
  • Pursues third party recognition for programs that establish DRiV’s EHS program as world class
  • Uses established EHS data processing tools such as Enablon and ENHESA to manage injury and illness data, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items and other pertinent information
  • Create training matrices to ensure all training is defined and tracked to completion
  • Work with site leadership team and facilities to ensure that all key EHS operations controls are in place; maintains EHS compliance calendar, and ensures EHS action items are resolved in a timely manner
  • Support W/C investigations in coordination with Medical and site Human Resources
  • Manages the following site facilitators/coordinators (as applicable): BBS facilitator, Ergonomic coordinator, industrial trainers, and PSIF
  • Assist with implementation of new requirements by DRiV Skokie’s EHS and operations teams
  • Monitor federal, state and local air quality regulations and rule makings to understand applicability to, and implications for, DRiV Skokie Operations
  • Represent DRiV Skokie in external regulatory affairs related to air quality, and develop relationships with agency officials as appropriate to support those efforts
  • Deliver subject matter expertise related to air quality compliance in support of DRiV Skokie’s EHS and operational objectives, and champion growth of air quality competencies within the organization
  • Establish, document, and maintain protocols for completing and submitting air quality reports
  • Recommend process improvements, best practices and lessons learned related to air quality compliance management
  • Support DRiV Skokie’s collection and analysis of air quality data, coordinate air quality reporting where doing so at a corporate level provides an advantage (e.g., GHG reporting)
  • Support DRiV Skokie’s compliance assessment process and ISO 45001/14001 programs, and act as lead auditor

Qualifications - Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental discipline or equivalent
  • Professional certification preferred (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified hazardous Material Manager or country equivalent where available)
  • 3+ years’ experience with an emphasis in environmental, health and safety programs and employee training
  • Comprehension of industry, state, and country EHS requirements
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to accurately interpret and communicate rules and standards of practice applicable to DRiV Skokie’s’ operations
  • Strong team building skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in programs such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook), and Enablon
  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional EHS teams and mentor other team members, especially those whose responsibilities include air quality compliance
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects
