Support Center - Irving

The Growth Director, MakerPlace, is part of a larger Digital and Omni channel platform and will be responsible for leading a team to define, refine, and optimize the MakerPlace growth plan across both sellers and customers, business model, and value proposition, maximizing and balancing revenue growth with profitability. Responsibilities include team leadership, executive alignment and communication, new strategy creation and development, program management, business development, partnerships, and negotiations.

This role will partner to scale MakerPlace from its nascency to a fully operating and optimized business unit. Because MakerPlace is still a startup, this role will be dynamic and evolve as the business unit matures & evolves. As such, a self-starter with comfort in ambiguity and the ability to create a vision and plan for the future will thrive.

This role will lead cross-functional collaboration and alignment across product, engineering, marketing, site experience & optimization, content, merchandising, operations, finance, and legal, incorporating the needs and constraints of all stakeholders.

We have launched a world-class 3rd Party Marketplace for Maker-Sellers to learn, grow, connect, teach, and sell their handmade finished goods and services. This effort is a primary strategy to deliver a full transformation of the digital ecosystem for the company.

  • Work closely with Senior Executives to identify gaps and opportunities to advance the growth of the business strategic initiatives, partnership, and other business development activities
  • Lead and manage a team of Growth group managers, managers, and specialists
  • Research and actively develop new business opportunities
  • Lead and effectively managing projects end-to-end, through your team
  • Partner with MakerPlace VP/GM to develop revenue and margin plans and forecasts for MakerPlace using market, consumer, and competitive insights, and internal analysis
  • Create frameworks for identifying and prioritizing growth opportunities,  potential partnerships, and key projects
  • Oversee the day-to-day performance of MakerPlace by Michaels, ensuring business, site, and customer retention metrics/KPIs are delivered.
  • Support the onboarding of new MakerPlace team members as we rapidly grow the organization
  • Review and assess the competitive landscape and value proposition from other 3P handmade marketplaces
  • Define, refine, and optimize the MakerPlace value proposition for both buyers and sellers, maximizing and balancing revenue growth with profitability
  • Identify, pursue, and negotiate partnerships critical to drive the future success of MakerPlace
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partner teams, including Product, Tech, Marketing, Content, Merchandising, Operations, and Finance, to scope and prioritize MakerPlace Growth initiatives

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, finance, engineering, marketing, merchandising, or related field required (MBA preferred or commensurate work experience)

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Thorough understanding of desktop, mweb, and app technologies
  • Detailed understanding of ecommerce, project management, business development, and strategy

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • 10+ years of professional non-internship digital, ecommerce, tech, project management, business development, and/or strategy experience
  • 5+ years of ecommerce, marketplace, technology, or consumer experience at Manager level or higher
  • Experience and passion for building ground up, nascent business models/functions/products/services
  • Entrepreneurial but can also collaborate well within a matrixed organization
  • Use creative thinking to identify and research high-value, strategic partnership opportunities
  • Use project management skills to drive toward the desired outcome. Lead specific work streams. Build consensus.
  • Work well and lead teams. You are driven, but collaborative, and think “team first”
  • Easily distill information into succinct, insightful summaries
  • Able to custom create extensive, multi-part presentations and your strong public speaking skills help you deliver the ideas to others
  • Ability to manage large workload, while producing quality work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and deadlines
  • Customer-obsessed with high-quality standards for delivering a differentiated value proposition and maximizing both GMV and revenue
  • Desire and ability to thrive in ambiguity as part of a startup business
  • Excellent Microsoft suite abilities, including executive-level presentations and project management software
