DC-Centralia

Responsible for the development and implementation of the Distribution Centers’ (DC) or Manufacturing Human Resources programs and procedures including, but not limited to, recruitment process, benefits administration, team member engagement/relations, payroll and record retention, etc. within the parameters of federal and local employment laws, regulations and company policy.

Major Activities

  • Directs the recruitment process for the DC or manufacturing facility, including sourcing, recruiting, and selection of candidates, partnering as appropriate with hiring leaders and HR team members.
  • Partners with the Leadership Team on organizational planning and development and administration of company policies, including those pertaining to safety, productivity, and accuracy.  Leads the administration of compensation, benefits and performance management programs. 
  • Ensures leaders comply with workplace conduct policies including Nondiscrimination, Equal Opportunity employment, Respectful Workplace, etc.  Investigates, responds and resolves workplace conduct issues as necessary. 
  • Manages workers compensation program and provides support to the company’s safety and modified duty programs.
  • Manages training and awareness programs related to HR issues, including new hire orientation program and ongoing communications with team members (e.g., building meetings, focus groups, etc.)  
  • Administers corrective action programs, partnering as required with leaders to determine appropriate courses of action to address conduct and/or improve team member performance.  
  • Develops and implements various team member recognition programs and activities. 
  • Develops and manages budget to align with company financial objectives. 
  • Establishes and maintains team member personnel files and data. 
  • Develops, completes and maintains regular, periodic and special reports concerning employment activity including attendance, OSHA, turnover and staffing levels. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned.  May participate in DC-specific/manufacturing facility specific, or Network-wide projects.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Minimum Education

  • Bachelors/Business Degree or equivalent

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications and related HR systems (e.g., HRIS and ATS applications)

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible Human Resource experience in distribution or manufacturing multi-facility environment.
  • Competency in recruiting, employee relations, organizational development and all HR facets.
  • Strong communication skills, organization and project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of state, provincial and federal employment laws, including US and Canada
  • Experience with maintaining a positive team member environment free of third-party interference

  • HR certification (through SHRM or HRCI) is a plus

Preferred Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • 5+ years experience in an HR leadership role preferred, particularly in an environment featuring a large population of hourly team members and/or a multi-shift, production-related work environment
  • Working knowledge of Michaels’ policies and guidelines a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent sitting when working in an office environment
  • Regular standing/walking, primarily in the office area with occasional walking in the warehouse
  • Infrequent light lifting/carrying (of office supplies, etc.) weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Infrequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting
  • Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers

Work Environment

  • This position is based in a climate-controlled office setting but will have occasional exposure to the warehouse, which features extreme temperatures dependent on external climate and proximity to dock doors/exits
  • Exposure to moderate noise level from DC conveyor/sortation system and powered industrial equipment when in the warehouse
