As the Head of Web and Mobile App Development at the Senior Director level, you will play a crucial role in leading our software development initiatives for Yahoo Sports. Overseeing a team of 35-40 skilled web and mobile app developers, you are tasked with steering the development of innovative, high-quality web products and mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms. This role demands a strategic leader capable of driving technological excellence, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, and delivering products that engage and captivate our global audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the web and mobile app development teams, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and objectives.

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and support a large team of developers, fostering an environment of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration. Manage team structure and dynamics to maximize productivity and employee satisfaction.

  • Development Oversight: Oversee all phases of software development from conception to deployment, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with quality standards.

  • Technology Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy that incorporates the latest trends and best practices in web and mobile app development.

  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, QA, and Operations, to ensure a seamless development process and high-quality product output.

  • Budget Management: Manage the development budget effectively, ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost efficiency.

  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve development processes and methodologies to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure scalability.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all web and mobile applications meet high-quality standards, are secure, and provide an excellent user experience.

  • Innovation: Encourage innovation within the team, exploring new technologies, tools, and practices that can enhance product development and meet evolving user needs.

  • Talent Development: Identify talent needs, participate in recruiting efforts, and develop talent within the team through mentoring, training, and providing growth opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 15+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in web and mobile application development on iOS and Android platforms.

  • At least 5 years in a leadership role managing a sizable team of software developers in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Proficient in modern programming languages and frameworks used for web and mobile app development.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading the end-to-end development lifecycle, from concept through to deployment and maintenance.

  • Strong knowledge of software architecture, API design, and scalable systems.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and leading teams in an Agile environment.

  • Excellent project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead teams across different disciplines.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and engage with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Forward-thinking mindset, with a passion for staying ahead of technology trends and leveraging them to drive innovation and excellence in product development.

The compensation for this position ranges from $180,310.00 - $392,430.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
