Job Description

DC-Berlin

The Training Support Coach drives overall Training efforts for the Distribution Center (DC) to support the achievement of DC operational goals for Safety, Quality, Efficiency and Teamwork. Also oversees Labor Management System (LMS) administration for the DC to ensure productivity metrics are timely and accurate. Supervises assigned team members and indirectly oversees trainers in various departments across the DC.

Major Activities

  • Leads and coordinates DC Training activity to help ensure team members are fully knowledgeable in the functions of their positions.  Develops and assesses an internal network of qualified trainers in all departments and administers “Train the Trainer” program on an ongoing basis to update their training effectiveness.  Provides leaders with feedback on trainer performance and solicits the same from operational leaders to continue to drive trainer effectiveness. 
  • Provides training support for new leaders and TAP Program participants. 
  • Coordinates cross-training efforts to support ongoing development of talent in the DC and provide operational bench strength that enables flexibility for changing business needs. 
  • Maintains training materials, assisting in the development and maintenance of training guides, SOPs, and Job Aids.   Maintains training administration, tracking training records for compliance purposes (e.g., equipment certification) and performance management (e.g., new hire progression results).  
  • Supervises the LMS Clerk and related functions to help ensure the integrity and timeliness of production data.  Collaborates with departmental leaders to help them use LMS data to make effective business decisions and drive operational efficiency.  
  • Oversees tracking and retention of all LMS observation records and data.  Utilizes LMS data to identify training opportunities in the facility and partner with trainers, coaches, and network IEs to improve results. 
  • Participates in the interviewing/selection process for new hires as directed/needed, particularly in Peak Season.  Participates in Orientation activities related to initial training; supports new hire onboarding as appropriate/needed.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or successful completion of Michaels’ CIT training program

  • Demonstrated ability to assess performance levels and analyze productivity and quality results in order to make improvements or take proper corrective action

  • Models effective leadership communication and related behavior at all times
  • Manages time effectively, achieving a balance of “on the floor” presence and office time
  • Ability to partner with others and manage projects across organizational lines is essential
  • Strong knowledge of Michaels’ SOPs and policies
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to provide the supervision necessary to assigned staff on all shifts and/or oversee training efforts on all shifts

Preferred Education

  • College degree preferred
  • Other related training/education is a plus
     

Preferred Type of Experience the Job Requires

  • Basic knowledge of warehouse operations in a distribution environment preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing/walking, both in the office area and within the warehouse
  • Occasional sitting when working in an office environment
  • Infrequent reaching bending, stooping, kneeling and twisting
  • Infrequent lifting/carrying of items (e.g., boxes of freight) of varying weight
  • Infrequent operation of powered equipment
  • Repetitive motion and movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers 

Work Environment

  • This position is based in a climate-controlled office setting with regular exposure to the warehouse, featuring extreme temperatures dependent on external climate and proximity to dock doors/exits
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise level from DC conveyor/sortation system and powered industrial equipment when in the warehouse
