Job Description

Help build the future of education
Would you like to be part of a team defining the future of education? Come join the ALEKS Technical Product Management team in our technology group and launch your career in Product Management. Develop skills in collaborating and communicating by connecting the technical and business worlds. Break down complex problems and turn them into actionable steps for development teams. Facilitate the work of agile scrum development teams.

How you can make an impact:

In the role of Business Analyst, you will work closely with creative, thoughtful, and high-performing cross-functional teams of designers, engineers, QA, and business unit partners to help guide through conception, launch, and continuous improvement the various digital products and services offered by ALEKS, a division of McGraw-Hill. You will be responsible for learning about our products (and becoming a product expert), gathering business requirements, analyzing software and business workflows, and writing business rule-based functional specifications, user stories, and test plans. You will support the Technical Product Managers (TPMs) and development teams and lead through influence. Since we work using the agile scrum framework, you will eventually have Product Owner responsibilities for 1 to 2 development teams.

What can you expect from the position?
•         Draft project charters, requirements, agile epics and stories; maintain backlog with high quality stories, acceptance criteria, and current priority.
•         Partner with program and team triad(s) to deliver roadmap commitments on-time, on-scope, on-quality.
•         Support the TPMs and the agile teams on the care and feeding of the products, platforms and websites, calling out where the products, platforms, and websites may require attention, including technical debt, defect triage and resolution, infrastructure, tools, and feature functionality, and then working with the TPM to manage the communications and execution of the work.
•         Work with content development teams across all business units to support the development of content for new products.
•         Participate in scrum ceremonies to ensure that there is an understanding of the user stories, enabling sizing and task break down to occur, and maximizing team productivity.
•         Communicate with technical teams and business stakeholders, including managing expectations, scope, and prioritization of work.
•         Partner with engineering, technical product management, user experience, project management, and QA to investigate, document, and maintain business and technical processes.
•         Document competitive landscape, release notes, workflows, processes, case studies, training materials, and technical alternatives for specific epics or feature sets.
What can you bring to the role?
•         Bachelor's degree. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in agile software product development, particularly in platform and applications development for multiple user roles.
•         Some exposure to product management; prior experience working with TPMs and development teams as a Product Owner is preferred.
•         Understanding of digital learning platforms, educational software and/or SaaS platforms or content development cycle would also be a plus.
•         Ability to understand and transform technical concepts into non-technical terms that are understandable by business and customer stakeholders and teams.
•         Experience with wireframe and design analysis, business/ecommerce/SaaS application analysis, and use case diagram development.
•         Demonstrated leadership potential to effectively work across multiple teams, business units, and stakeholders. You are a thinker AND a doer.
•         Deadline‐conscious, results‐driven, high‐performing in a high‐intensity environment, attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex systems.
•         Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational communication skills; must be able to communicate with technical teams and business stakeholders, as well as clearly document software for these audiences.
