Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for complete and accurate coding and abstracting data for all clinic patients. Knowledgeable in all coding principles of ICD-9-CM and CPT. Follows all Clinic, State, and Federal guidelines for appropriate assignment of codes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet minimum clinic/hospital hiring standards.
  • Maintain current licensure \u0026ndash; Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Two (2) plus years coding experience preferred.
  • Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology courses required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT, DRGs and Casemix.
  • Knowledge of computerized encoder systems helpful.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and general health billing experience required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for coding clinic visits, hospital visits, surgeries and procedures utilizing appropriate documentation
  • Demographics and charge entry
  • Enters professional charges into billing system and drops to billed status. Resolves claims in Hold Status.
  • Responsible for providing educational opportunities to staff and physicians, for conducting periodic audits of physician coding and for presenting the findings.
  • Ability to identify and communicate problem or questionable cases for appropriate follow up.
  • Stays current with all state and federal requirements and maintains educational requirements and licensure.
  • Completes any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
