Providence Health is currently looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager for our Northeast ED Unit. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of acute care experience. Prior management experience preferred. Job Summary A registered professional nurse who has continuous responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care on an assigned unit. Coordinates nursing activities to provide optimal care in a cost-effective manner, continually monitors to assure compliance with nursing standards and promotes cooperation and teamwork in the delivery of quality patient care.   Essential Functions

  • Participates in development, interpretation, and implementation of hospital philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Evaluates standards annually and as needed to make needed revisions to assure that nursing practice is current and congruent with the state Nursing Practice Act and standards of accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Develops goals and objectives for units of responsibility on annual basis and evaluates regularly to monitor progress and achievement.
  • Maintains open channels of communication by listening to the expressed feelings and opinions of nursing staff and keep personnel informed of changes that will affect them.
  • Conduct staff meetings quarterly and as needed for purpose disseminating information and quality improvement activities, sharing ideas and views to provide education for staff.
  • Is dedicated to ensuring delivery of optimal care to every patient and to promoting comradely amongst the 24 hour health care team.
  • Work as liaison with personnel in other hospital/agencies to meet the needs of our patients, community, regulatory agencies.
  • Utilizes staffing system to determine staffing patterns to meet patient care needs and staff units so that a minimal amount of overtime is needed.
  • Prepares monthly schedule to provide adequate staffing for unit and schedules time for orientation and specialized training as needed.
  • Interviews new employees and make recommendations concerning employment and position status.
  • Submits annual equipment needs for units of responsibility and practices and enforce cost containment through appropriate use of supplies/equipment and monitor recovery of lost charges.
  • Site FM forms are submitted for needed repairs and unsafe conditions are corrected, unsafe equipment is tagged and removed from service immediately when a defect is found.
  • Maintains an attractive and organized unit which is functionally equipped and facilitates the provision of services.
  • Completes and reviews performance evaluations before completion of probation and annually all personnel. Gives verbal, written feedback regarding performance throughout the year.
  • Reviews orientation records for completion and submits for placement in the employee file
  • Review goals as identified by each employee, at the time of performance appraisal to identify future educational needs.
  • Makes regular rounds to observe and evaluate patient care needs and the quality of care that is received.
  • Promotes active use of the Nursing Process thru supervision of patient care and care plan development.
  • Participates in planning and implementation of effective in-house and community patient education programs and evaluates to see that program goals are being met.
  • Utilizes universal precautions as per hospital policies and continually monitors staff compliance with policies and provides counseling when needed.
  • Informs CNO of unmet needs/issues and participates in management meetings by providing input from and taking information to nursing staff d reporting on unit activities.
  • Monitors quality assessment activities to see that they are consistent with the organizational performance improvement plan and submits reports by predetermination dates.
  • Reviews data and conducts studies to evaluate compliance with standards. Recommendations are made and plan of action is developed to improve performance.
  • Participate on hospital committee/task forces by collecting data and by providing input and working on projects related to improvement of care.
  • Initiates follow-up of medications and I.V. incidents and sees that the patient's physician is notified and that the medical reports accurately reports the incident.
  • Incident reports and quality concern reports are completed in a timely manner and are submitted to CNO or PSO with evidence to follow-up and counseling as needed.
  • Initiates appropriate disciplinary action when necessary and document accordingly.

Job Requirements

Required Skills

Priorexperience in a emergency department setting

 

Minimum Experience

5 years ofnursing experience in an acute care setting required. Prior supervisoryexperience preferred.

 

Education

Bachelor ofScience degree in nursing or health care administration preferred

Licensure/Certification

Currentlicense as a Registered Nurse from S.C.

Current BLSupon hire with American Heart Association.
