Job Description

You will have a dual role on our team.  As corporate counsel – Channel Development and Sales, you will partner closely with the Rackspace Channel Sales and Alliances (CSA) business unit, as it develops and evolves strategic partnerships and alliances with global businesses that leverage the portfolio of Rackspace services.  Your work will include structuring, drafting and negotiating domestic and international channel, reseller and distribution agreements, managing compliance and other trade regulations, providing strategic legal advice to business teams, and coordinating legal support with other members of the Rackspace Legal department.  You will also help support Rackspace Sales in connection with the sale of Rackspace products and services to its mid-market customers.  Ideal candidates will have a variety of commercial experience and familiarity with various technology platforms.  You will bring a business-oriented, problem-solving, practical approach to your work, and will be curious and interested in variety and novelty.  

In the Channel Sales and Alliances role, you will:

  • Be working cross-functionally to support the sales relationship with Rackspace’s key partners and resellers. You will also act as in a subject matter expert advisory capacity to other legal team members supporting partner and reseller relationships.
  • Develop and advise on policies and procedures that regulate or direct how business is conducted between Rackspace and its strategic partners and resellers in the US. You will regularly review and stress test our contract templates to ensure they reflect the way in which CSA does business and to confirm we have terms that are simple, flexible and anticipate new business needs and models.
  • Be working closely with the CSA team, building highly impactful legal frameworks and developing commercial strategies for go-to-market models, programs, promotions and incentives.
  • Be establishing trusted advisor relationships with the CSA leadership team. Participating as a member of the extended team by attending team calls as needed, providing input on business and contracting strategies, and being a first point of contact on new opportunities and related legal issues while providing ongoing business advice and counsel.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:  General knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to Rackspace operations.  Detail oriented. Good time management, communications, decision-making, presentation, human relations, and organizational skills. Efficient with PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and legal reference materials. Ability to communicate technical concepts and ideas so others will easily understand. Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups. Ability to provide FANATICAL support to internal clients.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:  JD degree, with documented experience in Channel and Sales environments. 5+ years of in-house or large firm legal experience required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office environment. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.  May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.  No special physical demands required. Schedule flexibility to include possibly working a weekend day and holidays as required by the business for 24/7 operations.  Rare travel, less than 5%.

POLICY COMPLIANCE: Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedures and any other relevant policies and standards as directed from time to time.
