Person Memorial Hospital

Twenty Four hour accountability for department including: effective performance, management, communication, resource management and leadership for Med Surgical and ICU departments. Utilizes the nursing process including: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and recording of patient care. Teaches, delegates and supervises other nursing staff in the provision of nursing care. Coordinates services with other members of the healthcare team to provide complex patient care. Practices within the scope of the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and Person Memorial Hospital policies/procedures/standards.

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Maintain and coordinate communication among patient, family members, staff and physician as evidenced within medical record and patient.
  • Manage and supervise department in full.
  • Performs administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Provides clinical leadership.

Reports to:  Chief Nursing Officer FLSA:  Exempt  Grade:   E05

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Associate Degree or Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must have current/valid NC Registered Nurse's License

Basic Life SUpport (BLS) required upon hire.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 90 days of hire.

Must have at least 3 years of clinical experience in a manager's or director's role.
