The EMT-Intermediate in the Emergency Department performs patient care duties that not only include PCT duties, but also care for wounds and orthopedic injuries, performing blood glucose checks, phlebotomy and assisting medical and nursing staff with emergency procedures. The EMT Intermediate also has expanded duties approved specifically for the Emergency Department under supervision and guidance of the Emergency Department nursing and medical staff including: IV insertion, IV fluid maintenance (without additives), to include continuing drip by hanging new bags, changing tubing and discontinuance of IV catheters. Duties also include maintenance of IV pumps (non-PCA). The EMT-Intermediate can also give certain medications and monitor their effectiveness and report the patient status to the registered Nurse and/or the Doctor. The EMT-Intermediate also provides service to patients throughout the life span including newborns, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric age groups.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:  Highschool diploma or equivalent and successful completion of approved andaccredited EMT-I training. 

Minimum Experience:   One year fieldexperience as a EMT-I preferred.

Certification/Licensure:  Current NMEMT-I license required.  Current CPR/BLS required.
