The Registered Rehabilitation Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the assessment, planning, coordinating, providing, and evaluating total nursing care for rehabilitation patients based on current standards of practice/standards of care as appropriate to meet patients’ needs. The rehabilitation nurse is competent in specific rehabilitation areas/techniques including bowel and bladder training, care of the patient with a CVA, TBI, orthopedic condition, SCI, or amputation, including motor and cognitive activity. FIM scoring, use of the CPM machine, and bladder scanner. The rehabilitation nurse takes into consideration the patients’ age, cultural, and/or religious needs. The rehabilitation nurse effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other healthcare team members. The rehabilitation nurse understands the needs of the organization, and supports the mission, values, and management of patient care services.
