The Phlebotomist shall demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development assessment, range of treatment and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served. This position shall perform outreach laboratory specimen processing, serve as a liaison between lab and outreach clients, participates in patient specimen collection responsibilities, computer processing of patient specimens before and after collection and perform clerical duties and activities.

  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical, or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.

  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.

  • Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.

  • Must participate in safety instructional programs.

  • Maintains compliance with CAP, State, Federal and other regulatory and accrediting agency standards related to job duties.

  • Demonstrates professional and independent judgment at all times.

  • Demonstrates skill and accuracy in obtaining specimens for all age groups served.

  • Shows competency in LIS computer system.

  • Maintain effective relationships with other hospital personnel in the hospital.

  • Understands correct method for outreach patient registration.

  • Assist with Performance Improvement activities in the department and serves on teams if needed.

  • Performs other duties and functions necessary to the effective and quality operation of the Dept.

Job Requirements

HighSchool Diploma or GED required. Must be a Certified Phlebotomist and a Graduatefrom a Phlebotomy Program, or currently enrolled in a laboratory program suchas MLS or MT, or have three years’ experience.

Basicrequired skills include; communication, organizational, customer relations,math, grammar/spelling, the ability to read, write, speak, and understandEnglish, the ability to follow written and oral direction, and computertraining.
