The Laboratory Coordinator shall perform and demonstrate proficiency and understanding in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory, assists in instructing other personnel as assigned, performs with a perceptive depth of clinical laboratory tests and procedures which require the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility. Maintains the highest degree of quality patient care at all times. The Laboratory Coordinator is also responsible for LIS. This includes, but not limited to system file maintenance and the maintenance of the ongoing laboratory quality assurance program.

• Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.
• Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
• Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.
• Must participate in safety instructional programs.
• Maintains compliance with CAP, State, Federal and other regulatory and accrediting agency standards related to job duties.
• Demonstrates professional and independent judgment at all times.
• Demonstrates skill and accuracy in obtaining specimens for all age groups served.
• Shows competency in performing testing procedures and LIS computer system.
• Effectively uses laboratory equipment, notifies physicians, staff of down equipment.
• Delivers laboratory results to patient care areas in a timely fashion.
• Performs, evaluates and reports quality control monitoring on laboratory tests.
• Maintain effective relationships with other hospital personnel in the hospital.
• Understands correct method for outreach patient registration.
• Participates in continuing education programs and related professional activities.
• Assist with Performance Improvement activities in the department and serves on teams if needed.
• Acts as section leader of respective work area
• Performs other duties and functions necessary to the effective and quality operation of the Dept.
• Monitors the laboratory information systems and performs table and file maintenance.
• Acts as liaison between LIS and HIS.
• Trains and educates all laboratory personnel on LIS.
• Provides technical support in solving procedural problems.
• Functions as the quality assurance coordinator of the laboratory.
• Presents appropriate in-service lectures to laboratory and other professional staff.
• Evaluates and takes appropriate corrective action on quality control issues concerning the LIS.

Job Requirements

Mustbe Kentucky State Licensed/Certified/Registered as a medical technologist and agraduate from a Medical Technologist/Technician School of training. AssociatesDegree required, Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred. One yearclinical laboratory experience or completion of equivalent clinical laboratorytraining program required. Professional certification including ASCP and AMTpreferred but not required. CPR/BLS certification required.

BasicSkills include organizational, customer relations, math, grammar and spelling,computer training, the ability to follow written and oral instruction, and theability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
