The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) is a customer and patient service oriented team player who is responsible for supporting the clinic by providing a variety of services including direct patient care for general and preventative eye care and complications related to injury or disease of the eye. This includes determining optimal testing techniques required to gather the desired data and to determine how best to obtain the desired information with regard to each patient’s examination. Responsible for preparing and maintaining patient records, preparing patients for physician or other provider, interacting maintaining optimal patient flow and assisting with patient care as needed. This individual performs in accordance with hospital standards and policies in a leadership capacity, ensuring quality patient care.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. 2 year degree, in the medical field, preferred.
 Certified as an Ophthalmic Assistant(COA)
 Two years previous experience, performing Ophthalmic Assistant duties in a physician’s office. 
 Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
Strong keyboarding skills including word processing and order entry skills
 Knowledge of safety and infection control hospital procedures and Aseptic technique
 Basic medical terminology understanding
 Ability to take vital signs
