2. Enter / Review / Organize Outpatient Orders and Test Results in Laboratory Information System
● Register patient in Star using “quick” registration
● Place patient orders in Horizon Lab
● Scan orders into Right Fax
● Process orders on all Medicare patients through Compliance Checker prior to order entry
and follow all Medical Compliance rules to ensure that appropriate paperwork completed
and follow-up is taken when necessary
3. Order, read and report IPPDs
● Assist patient in completing form correctly, place order in computer and file form
● Read arm and result in computer
● Refer patient to employee health if applicable
4. Receptionist Duties
● Answer incoming phone calls and greet customers in Lab reception area
● Perform necessary communication (via fax or phone) between Lab and Physician /
Provider offices to ensure testing is ordered and reported correctly
● Label and delivery of Outpatient Specimens to Laboratory areas
● Prepare and distribute specimen containers and instructions to Outpatients
● Process, file and mail physician reports
5. Specimen Processing Duties
● Receive and process specimens
● Deliver specimens to appropriate departments “instrument ready”
● Evaluate, reschedule and recollect unacceptable specimens
● Process reference lab specimens for pickup
6. Assists in the training of new employees, Phlebotomy students, other hospital staff performing
phlebotomy responsibilities throughout the hospital.
