Job Description

The Rackspace Consulting Architecture and Engineering team delivers guidance, advice and technology implementation services to customers who are moving to the cloud. We build solutions that help our customers to deliver value faster.

We are looking for an additional Consulting Architecture and Engineering Manager to join the team

As a Consulting Architecture and Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of up to ten architects and engineers, who work on delivering a wide range of technical solutions to our customers and are primarily involved in building cloud-native solutions on platforms such as Google Compute Platform, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, using a wide range of modern technologies and processes.

Next to having line management responsibilities for a team of up to 10 consultants, you will be involved in demand management for the team, dealing with pre-sales and working together as part of the management team on building out the structure for future growth of the organization. As part of the role you will have the following responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities

People management:

  • Day-to-day management of a team of up to ten highly skilled technicians
  • Contribute to building a diverse team of engaged and motivated architects and engineers (Rackers) within the practice
  • Host weekly team huddles and regular one-to-ones with your Rackers, developing and mentoring them to become the best version of themselves and to support their careers
  • Manage the performance of the team through our regular performance cycle
  • Actively drive initiatives to contribute to our goals and make Rackspace a great place to work

Engagement management

  • Drive successful relationships with key customer stakeholders supported by the practice
  • Work with other Rackspace stakeholders to make every engagement a success
  • Identify opportunities for improvement with the customer, the team and Rackspace and own the outcomes for those improvements
  • Be the go-to person for your team and the customer regarding the day-to-day delivery of the work
  • Drive the NPS within the practice


Practice development

  • Together with your peers in the practice and the wider Rackspace Professional Services team, identify, develop and bring to market new offerings

Resource and demand management

  • Drive team utilization within specified targets
  • Engage with the wider professional services teams to hire internally or externally to source team assignments
  • Work closely with local sales leadership to identify opportunities, help to shape new engagements
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding and seamless rotations of Rackers within the team
  • Build relationships with sourcing partners to complement our ability to deliver

 
Key R
equirements

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing technical teams, preferably in a professional services organization. The role requires no hands-on project or delivery work. However, given the highly technical environments in which we operate, a solid understanding of cloud technology, its benefits and challenges, is required.

Prior experience of delivering technical services in IT

Previous experience of managing a team of IT professionals, including hiring and personal development of team members

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deliver presentations on team performance, both internally and externally

Ability to deliver constructive and continuous feedback

Strong attention to detail is required to deliver high quality reports

Able to build and maintain strong relationships with people at various levels in the business, both at customer site and within the wider Rackspace organization.

This is a customer facing role and therefore the ability to travel to customer sites 60% of the time is required.
