Minimum Education

 

Graduation from a school of nursing as a registered nurse required.

One or more years recent experience in cardiac rehabilitation, ICU or Emergency Department.

Experience and proficiency with EKG monitoring/dysrhythmia recognition and treatment.

Commitment to a healthy lifestyle as a role model for participants and staff.

Desire to work within a comprehensive health care team (team player/good communication skills).

BLS required

ACLS required

PALS preferred

Required Skills

 

Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing.

Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.

Ability to discern legal implications in nursing.

Ability to motivate personnel, problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions

Performs functions of a registered nurse, uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients.

Supervises patient sessions in Director’s absence.

Provides excellent customer service including patient education.

Participates in continuing education programs, in-services and seminars to maintain competency in cardiovascular care and cardiac rehabilitation.

Professionalism – applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research/outcomes.

Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.

Maintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control and security.

Complies with regulatory requirements and The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Works as scheduled, without unplanned absences. Arrives on time and ready to work.

Productivity – ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.

Performs clerical tasks such as patient scheduling, phone calls, faxing, medical records, submitting charges, etc.

Conducts basic patient education/counseling sessions relating to cardiac risk factor identification and behavior modification.

Communicates effectively to co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.

Completes/attends all required in-services and unit staff meetings.

Keeps patient records/charting in compliance with The Joint Commission and Medicare standards.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Develops, implements and evaluates plan of care including accurate assessment, EKG/vital signs interpretation, appropriate exercise, psychosocial and patient education.

Working knowledge of hospital technology, i.e. the PYXIS medication delivery system, data order entry system, EKG telemetry monitoring system, computer and other electronic devices.

Functional Demands

Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting heavy objects/patients (patients 300+ pounds), stooping and climbing stairs.

Demonstrates proper, safe use of all equipment, assists and “spots” patients during the use of equipment.

Must be able to read technical information, must possess basic mathematical and computer skills, write legibly and coherently and speak clear, fluent English.

Must have normal hearing and visual acuity.

Involves mental activity and problem-solving, to include the ability to implement solutions.

Exposure to blood, body fluid and hazardous wastes is possible, must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.

Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients, to operate machinery.
