Minimum Education

Graduation from a school of nursing as a registered nurse required.

Operating Room/Endoscopy experience preferred.

Ability to take call, and live within 20 minutes of the hospital required.

Required Licenses

Current RN license required

BLS required

ACLS preferred

PALS preferred

ASLS preferred

Strong clinical skills with ability to react decisively in emergency situations.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management.

Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing.

Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions

Performs functions of a registered nurse - uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients.

Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify environment to meet patient care needs.

Functions as a role model for clinical practice to co-workers, students, and physicians to help build and maintain a professional environment.

Communicate with patients, family members and physicians frequently while providing excellent customer service.

Supervise and coordinate patient care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Possess the experience, knowledge and ability to safely apply theory to practice by providing, planning and delegating nursing care within the defined scope of practice for a registered nurse.

Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations that present in the work area.

Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

Ability to problem solve effectively to provide quality patient care.

Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psych/social/cultural support.

Possess knowledge of cleaning the surgical environment, equipment and flash autoclaving.

Ability to manage high levels of stress due to multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work with Paragon applications (computer system).

Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system.

Functional Demands

Work requires physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc.

Involves mental activity and problem-solving.

Talking and listening are essential in instructing and supervising personnel.

May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.

Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.

Walking and standing for long periods of time depending on workload.

Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside.

Sitting for long periods of time throughout day.

Lifting – Regularly assists with lifting patients (weights up to 300+ pounds waist high). Routinely lifts boxes, packages and books.

Must transport patients by stretcher, bed, and wheelchair to the OR and back to the nursing units.

Must lift items within the OR and Central Sterile Supply weighing up to 30-40 pounds (instrument trays) and lifting and transferring patients, with assistance, who weigh up to 300+ pounds.

Lifting is waist high.

Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients and operate machinery.

Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description.
