Under the general direction of the Surgical Services Coordinator, Director of Surgical Services and the Chief Nursing Officer, is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing pre/post-operative patient care utilizing the nursing process specific to the age of the patient population to patients before surgery and until dismissed to the nursing unit or to home for outpatients.  The R.N. ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remaining flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.  Supports the medical and multidisciplinary plan of care, as well as the objectives of the hospital.  Refers significant information or concerns to the Surgical Services Coordinator or Director of Surgical Services.  The R.N. is a graduate from an approved school of nursing and is currently licensed to practice in the state of Kentucky, and holds a current CPR, ACLS, and PALS card. 

  1. Initiates and participates in multi-disciplinary care planning, interventions and evaluations.
  2. Performs assessments and conducts preoperative interview of same day surgery patients.
  3. Is knowledgeable in medication administration and provides safe administration of medications. 
  4. Maintains accurate narcotic counts and ensures documentation of narcotic record is complete.
  5. Is knowledgeable in the area of Sedation Analgesia.
  6. Prepares outpatients for surgery.
  7. Provides immediate nursing care to post-operative patients.
  8. Provides emotional support to patients/significant others.
  9. Provides safe transportation of patient to Nursing Unit.
  10. Prepares outpatients for discharge to home with post-operative instructions.
  11. Discharges patient to Nursing Unit or to home.
  12. Is responsible for accurate documentation and maintenance of complete medical record.
  13. Is responsible and accountable for maintaining and improving knowledge and skills.
  14. Works well in a team atmosphere and incorporates a professional attitude in his/her performance.  Promotes a positive, cohesive work environment.
  15. Functions as an independent nurse.
  16. Assess data reflective of patients status; interprets appropriate information needed to identify patients requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, based on units Policy and Procedures.
  17. Provide interventions based on age-specific criteria and departmental patient-care standards.
  18. Maintains stock, supplies and drugs at PAR levels.

Maintains current CPR, ACLS and PALS requirement

Job Requirements

  • KentuckyNursing License, Current CPR, ACLS (within 90 days of hire), PALS (within 90 days ofhire), and Clinical Ladder Level 1 I.Worksother than usual shifts as needed.  Worksother than usual areas as needed if qualified for duties required.

  • On-callstatus required and 30-minute response time after notification.

Minimal completion ofLevel One on the Clinical Ladder Program Annually for Full-time and Part-timeemployees.  If not completed, employeeforfeits the annual evaluation pay.

*This position has a $5,000 Sign-On Bonus option.  To qualify for the bonus you must have one or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse, you can not be a current  employee, and must  be willing to sign a agreement for a year and status commitment.
