Job Summary

The Technical Coordinator serves as the testing compliance expert for assigned department. Establishes, coordinates, instructs, trains, troubleshoots, oversees, and coordinates all testing activities. Inspects and prepares monthly reviews for assigned department to keep it abreast of on-going regulatory compliance. Communicates with personnel assigned to testing departments to keep them abreast of their on-going regulatory compliance. Serves as liaison and responsible party for applicable regulatory inspections (i.e. the College of American Pathologists and Joint Commission inspections, …etc.).

Capable of working directly with nursing personnel or other laboratory staff and patients. Experienced in writing policies, procedures and criterion checklists for all new instruments and tests. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts. Work effectively under stress. Must possess knowledge of the regulatory and accreditation agency standards.

Essential Functions

  1. Testing – Serves as key troubleshooter and repair person for designated area instrumentation. Ensures all instrumentation is available and in good working order at all times. Ensures set-up and initial validation studies on all method/equipment. Ensures correlation and confirms testing tolerance ranges for all method/equipment at designated intervals as required by regulatory standards. Establishes or confirms the linearity, tolerance and normal population ranges for all test methods. Ensures the normal ranges appear on the chart with the patients' results. Ensures new lots of reagents and controls are valid prior to testing. Ensures monthly audits are completed to assure compliance with regulatory requirements, based on the procedure/method utilized. Provides leaders with information of their designated area’s progress regarding quality assurance compliance and mentors as needed.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree from accredited laboratory training program - Required

Baccalaureate Degree from accredited laboratory training program – Preferred


Experience:   3 years of experience as laboratory tech. - Required  


Licensure/Certification/Registration:

MT/MLS Certification from ASCP or AMT. All individuals certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004 must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006 must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP). - Required
