Harris Regional Hospital

The Nurse Manager manages the daily operations of the Medical Surgical unit at Harris Regional Hospital and ensures alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.

Essential Functions:

Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.

Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management. Performs and oversees scheduling, staff development, recruitment, time and attendance, and student engagements.

Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations. Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies.

Assesses the quality of patient care delivered and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments. Provides patient care when necessary.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.

Performance review includes recognition of active participation in briefs, debriefs, huddles, learning boards, and executive patient safety rounds.
Participation in improvement teams and following established channels for process improvement ideas is a requirement in all positions. Assists with orienting new employees and students.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:  Associate’s degree is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred. 

Licensure: Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina or a compact State 

Certifications:     American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS):
Must attain American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year and maintained thereafter

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work Experience:
Experienced as a professional nurse in which manager and supervisory competence has been demonstrated. Minimum of three years of experience in hospital nursing required. Prior managerial experience is strongly desired.
