This is a heavy guest facing position leading a team of 10-15 team members responsible for all operational, financial, and service goals while driving best-in-class excellence in quality assurance and food safety practices aligned to a new in-store café concept. This concept is designed to deliver a personalized fresh food experience to our guests. As a new concept within The Fresh Market, this person will ideally serve as a task force opener for future stores and will be heavily involved with senior leadership at our headquarters to successfully launch this new endeavor.  

Additionally, the Food and Beverage Manager will ensure that food and beverage for the concept is of the highest quality and guests are provided an exceptional experience. They will also be embedded with the team tasked with the creation of the concept to ensure that the concept integrates as seamlessly as possible with the existing TFM ecosystem and structure.

As part of The Fresh Market team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest service levels are provided to our guests. These duties are vital to The Fresh Market’s functionality each day and the ability of the store to deliver results.  Proven skill in advancing/sustaining continuous improvement to deliver quality, customer service, safety, innovation, and cost performance is a core requisite.

What You'll Do:
  • Create an atmosphere of excitement and inclusiveness with staff and guests
  • Build sales and profitability of department
  • Manage schedule for hourly associates to ensure a superior guest experience
  • Manage shrink and food and labor costs
  • Create high touch culture to engage guests and upsell products
  • Create food production schedules
  • Conduct inventory review and product ordering (coordinating with existing store inventory and ordering system)
  • EOD and Weekly reporting
  • Ensure merchandising of product is consistent with plan-o-grams
  • Ensure food quality is of the highest standards and service standards are maintained
  • Ensure equipment is maintained / serviced on a regular basis
  • Manage the EOD deep cleaning of kitchen equipment
  • Track hourly sales and motivate team to drive check average
  • Drive food sampling with guests

To meet the needs of our stores, guests and teams, this position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, days, evenings and occasional overnight and holiday work.

Job Requirements

At a minimum, what you’ll need:

  • 3 plus years of experience as a front end restaurant manager within the retail, restaurant, or hospitality field
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in leading teams
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have intense passion for cooking delicious, healthy and safe food
  • Must have high standards for food quality and customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal food and health department requirements
  • Must be able to travel 30%
  • This position is based in Greensboro, North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, Culinology, Nutrition or Hotel/Restaurant Management is highly desirable
  • Retail, Culinary and/or Grocery experience

Physical and Work Conditions

  • Repetitive hand/arm movements, grasping, bending, reaching, ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds by oneself, exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Ability to use tools equipment: knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, pallet jacks, and other equipment
  • Required to spend long periods of time on feet and stand or walk without a break (for up to 4 hours or as required by law)
  • Required to wear approved hat, hair net, and/or beard guard, and personal protective equipment
