Job Description

• Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA regulations and follows the laboratories safety policies by utilizing the safety items/equipment provided by the facility.
• Performs laboratory work in assigned areas in a prompt and accurate manner.
• Performs quality control as described in the policy/procedure manuals taking necessary corrective action when controls are not within the labs quality standards.
• Notifies Laboratory Manager when corrected reports are issued.
• Maintains daily instrument maintenance & troubleshooting and communicates any problems to personnel on other shifts.
• Monitors inventory of supplies and relays impending shortages to the Laboratory Manager.
• Performs phlebotomies as needed, and requests any assistance as needed.
• Instructs and supervises new employees and students as assigned.
• Trained on proper billing procedures according to hospital/laboratory policies and procedures.
• Knows how and when to use or request ABN’s, and follows policies on standing orders, verbal orders, and incomplete orders.
• Understands billing compliance as important role for Medicare, Medicaid and other federally funded programs.
• Knowledge of how to use billing hotline for violations or billing questions/concerns. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital emergency policies.
• Works 40 hours/wk and assists on weekends as workload indicates.
• Rotates “on call” as assigned.
• Assists other areas in completing workload, including areas outside of the laboratory, only when testing and maintenances are finished and primarily to not leave the lab without coverage.
• Assists in evaluation of new modified methods or procedures, when requested.
• Is knowledgeable & possesses the ability to understand & react effectively to the unique needs, growth & development of patients in any of the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and patients who have restraints.
• Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word required.
