Position Summary: This position will float to all areas of the Patient Access Department. Will perform accurate patient scheduling and registration in the electronic scheduling system. Primary responsibility is outpatient/surgery/ER registration with all other functions and activities related to patient access including but not limited to: receptionist/switchboard, pre-certification, on-site insurance verification, point of service collection, and discharge.

Duties included, but are not limited to the following:

-Performs patient registration and pre-registration functions in a complete and accurate manner.

-Demonstrates knowledge of procedures related to various alarms, codes, emergencies, etc.

-Performs switchboard and receptionist functions completly and in courteous manner with no pattern of deviation.

-Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pay and deductibles, or refers sthem to the Patient Advocate, when appropriate.

Job Requirements


  1. High school graduate or equivalent, Medical Secretary and/or Medical Administrative Education preferred.
  2. Minimum of 1 year work-related experience in a medical/clinical office, experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  3. Previous experience with computerized registration systems and Electronic Health Record System preferred.
  4. Familiarity of medical insurance and medical terminology is preferred.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory.
  6. Must have excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette.
  7. Must have exceptional and excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with patients and visitors of all demographics is required.
  8. Computer proficiency and data entry skills.
  9. The ability to effectively work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  10. Ability to work in a team oriented environment as well as work independently.
