The Nuclear Med Technologist shall be responsible for operating radiology equipment and working with radioactive materials.
  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.
  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
  • Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.
  • Must participate in safety instructional programs.
  • Explains procedure to patient. Operates isotope dose calibrator, prepares radioactive material by calculating proper dose and administers to patient.
  • Correctly performs examination and processes data for diagnostic studies.
  • Maintains quality control standards for nuclear medicine area and maintains a safe work area free of radioactive hazards. Observes strict precautions in handling isotopes to safeguard against overexposure to radiation.
  • Conducts radiation surveys in Nuclear Med. Dept. Disposes of decayed radioisotopes according to hospital established procedure.
  • Maintains current and accurate records and logs required by all regulatory agencies. Annotates test results to required forms. Computes and records test results. Maintains records of type of tests performed, use and disposition of isotopes and body products containing isotopes.
  • Inventories and orders supplies as required. Monitors equipment performance and reports faulty equipment to supervisor.
  • Assesses and monitors patient for changes.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of work area.
  • Correctly identifies and labels all studies.
  • Performs necessary front desk operations (phone, filing, computer, etc)
  • Takes call as assigned.
  • Schedules procedures in a manner that promotes patient flow within the department.
  • Demonstrates concern for patient safety, comfort and privacy at all times.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Must be a graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program and Radiology Technology Program. Previous experience preferred. Must be Kentucky stay Licensee and Registered ARRT (R), (NM), or ARRT (R) and CNMT. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association required.

Basic Required Skills include; organizational, customer relations, math, grammar/spelling, typing, computer training, the ability to follow written and oral direction, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
